   ABOUT KABEGA CHRISTIAN INDEPENDENT SCHOOL

History and the Road Forward for KCS

Kabega Christian Independent School was a dream of Pastor Herman du Toit, then the Pastor of the Kabega Aanbiddingsentrum in Kabega Road, Brymore, Port Elizabeth. Pastor Du Toit and Francois van Vuuren went for the ACE School of Tomorrow Administrative and Principal training in 1998 in Durban. KCS opened it doors with four Gr R’s on 1 January 1999 with Ronell Niksch as the Supervisor. There were eighteen church members’ children expected to be there in January 1999. The idea was to start a Primary School and work it up grade for grade until Matric. God had other plans. The “High School” with INTEC grew very fast as the Primary School had a slow growth. The curriculum was English and the assembly was Afrikaans. Eventually it was decided to close the Primary School in 2005 and we had our first, own matriculants on the Education Department’s Curriculum in 2006. There was a definite demand for a High School in the Western Suburbs as there are many Primary Schools in this part of Port Elizabeth, but not many High Schools.

KCS started in the church building of the Kabega Aanbiddingsentrum and later we moved to the manse of the Kabega Aanbiddingsentrum and we made a few alterations to accommodate 90 learners. We outgrew the facilities and we prayed for new facilities. In 2009 we moved to the Oeslande Full Gospel Church’s facilities where they sacrificed their Church Hall for three classrooms, the assembly built an extra 62 square meters class/ Sunday School Hall for the church and school. Since then KCS went from strength to strength. We built five extra classrooms behind the church. We have a fully equipped Library, Laptop Lab, Science Lab and 8 beautiful classes for a maximum of 25 learners per class. Some subject Teachers are teaching via data projector and my dream is to go the tablet route later on.

The school is registered by the Dept of Health for 150 learners from Gr 8 – 12. KCIS has a seven year accreditation with Umalusi until 30 May 2020. There are 14 Staff members who love the Lord, education and the learners. I have been the Headmaster since 01 June 1999 until now. God is good and we let the learners know that God must be number one in their lives. Without Him we can do nothing. Academics must be of a high standard and all our teachers are registered with SACE. We believe in an education of EXCELLENCE, because God is a God of excellence!
