The KCS Teacher as a Christian Teacher

 

   

Spiritually you have to teach the KCS learners that they must:

 

1.         love God;

2.         love their neighbour;

3.         develop a prayer life;

​4.         read the Word of God;

​5.         must apply God’s Word to all of their life principles;

​6.         embrace the Great Commission in Matthew 28:19 & 20.

​7.         walk in purity of thought and action and

​8.         identify with a local church.

 

You have to cater to every type of learner so everyone has a chance to shine and become what God wants them to become. They cannot only talk the talk; they must also walk the walk. Learners must submit their lives to Jesus Christ after they have learned the Christian walk of life in the Devotion Periods, Assembly and the Prayer Sessions on Fridays.

 

If everything a teacher does is based on his or her foundational values, it is important to look at those foundations critically, to discuss them openly and honestly, to evaluate them according to some standard outside ourselves and to modify where necessary. Teachers teach material within their own specific frameworks of belief. Teachers should be able to defend the foundations upon which their teaching is based. Proverbs 23:7 “As he thinketh in his heart, so is he.” Therefore we need to look at our thoughts about key areas of life to determine the foundation on which we are building. We have to measure new information against a specific standard. What is the standard?

 

Matthew 7:24-27 “Therefore whoever hears these sayings of Mine, and does them, I will liken him to a wise man who built his house on the rock: and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it did not fall, for it was founded on the rock. But everyone who hears these sayings of Mine, and does not do them, will be a foolish man who built his house on the sand: and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house: and it fell. And great was its fall.”

 

Our view of people will affect everything we do – in life and in the classroom. All people have the potential and responsibility for becoming godly. 2 Peter 1:3-11 “As His divine power has given to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of Him who called us by glory and virtue, by which have been given to us exceedingly great and precious promises, that through these you may be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust. But also for this very reason, giving diligence, add to your faith virtue, to virtue knowledge, to knowledge self-control, to self-control perseverance, to perseverance godliness, to godliness brotherly kindness, and to brotherly kindness love. For if these things are yours and abound, you will neither barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. For he who lacks these things is short-sighted, even to blindness, and has forgotten that he was cleansed from his old sins. Therefore, brethren, be even more diligent to make your call and election sure, for if you do these things you will never stumble; for so an entrance will be supplied to you abundantly into the everlasting kingdom of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.”

 

The importance of having a sound Biblical philosophy of education cannot be overemphasized. The Christian teacher is to be a guide or resource person in the wonderful experience of learning.  His/her learners must know that he/she cares about them. As a Christian educator the teacher must be both a Christian and an educator. As an educator he/she functions in accordance with the mandate of God to teach in accord with the educational principles contained in the Word of God. Educate means to change one’s behaviour. Christian teachers must be spirit filled men and women of God.

 

Six qualifications for a Spirit-filled teacher are:

 

1.       The teacher is the communicator of truth and he/she must be openly and boldly a Christian.

 

2.       Every teacher must know the Bible.

 

3.       The Christian teacher must be committed in every aspect of his/her life and work, in all his/her being, to the truth.               

 

4.       The teacher must seek excellence, because God is a God of excellence.

 

5.       The Christian teacher must truly love his/her learners, seeking their highest good even when at times the way                                may be hard. He/she should genuinely like and understand them.

 

6.       The Christian teacher should exercise complete submission to the one Great Teacher, Jesus Christ. Every                                      teacher must listen to the Lord and the Holy Spirit, for his/her lessons.

 

The following sum up what the Bible expects of its educators:

 

• Christian education is a supernatural task. The presence of God’s Holy Spirit in teaching takes Christian education beyond mere programming, methodology and techniques.

• A teacher is to rely on the Holy Spirit. Christian education demands you to be submissive to the guidance of the Holy Spirit. Teachers must work with God, not against Him.

• Teachers are to relate God’s Word to the KCS learners’ experiences.

• Teachers are to rest satisfied with nothing less than spiritual- and academic results.

• Teachers must recognize God and the Holy Spirit is the teacher. We are His channel of grace. An instrument doing the planting and the watering.

 

The KCS learner spends most of his/her day at KCS. We are the spiritual- and academic facilitator during school hours. Enjoy this responsibility God gave to you. Stay close to God by spending time with God in prayer, reading His Word and meditating in His presence everyday.
